Blog #3 Assessing and Evaluating in Learning Different Environments
You have now applied various types of learning and teaching:
- Creating learning strategies activities
- Blogging
- Assessing
- Evaluating one another
Now that you are really delving into evaluating and assessing activities and one another, consider how you will accommodate peer evaluation in your classroom. How will or did activities like learning strategies, blogging, peer- and self-assessing open your eyes to how differently we all learn and interact with the concept of learning? (If we were in a face-to-face class, you all would also be jigsawing, whiteboarding, etc.) How important is it to let students play a role in assessment (whether peer assessing, creating their own learning strategy activities, or even writing their own quizzes)?
Blog by Sunday night June 12, and respond to your classmates by Tuesday, June 14th.
I think that there are a lot of benefits to allowing students to play a role in assessment, especially when it comes to making tests. When students create tests, that is a form of a studying and they bette commit information to their long term memories. Also, when they create tests you are able to get a better grasp on numerous things: 1. What information from the unit/text that they believe is important to know, and also how this aligns with what information YOU think is most important for them to know
ReplyDelete2.What test styles they prefer
3.How well they know/comprehended the information.
I think I will accommodate peer assessment in my classroom by allowing my students to create quizzes for their peers, giving them opportunities to create games and learning strategy activities, and lastly, by doing peer revision activities.
I totally agree Kimber. I always have enjoyed hands on classes and I think that kids really benefit from being given some power, for example creating tests. I think that your decision to accommodate peer assessments would work out great!
DeleteI was a fan of creating the test. If it was putting questions on their or just the format. I agree with everything you have mention in this post!
DeleteIn my classroom I would use various activities to accommodate peer evaluations. I would use activities like peer- and self-assessing, whiteboarding, and group projects. Peer and self assessing is important so that others reflect on their peers, but also to reflect on themselves. I would make sure the assessments are anonymous as well so that way I could get the most honest evaluations from the students.
ReplyDeleteWhite-boarding would be a fun activity that would get all the students involved. I also think group projects would be a great activity to get students involved and incorporate peer and self assessments. Group projects will also get the students thinking outside the box and being creative. Letting students play a role assessment is very important because if the students feel important or in control they will contribute more and enjoy the class or school all together even more, which is a big goal I would have in the education field.
I agree with how peer and self assessment is important. Anonymous is a great way to get a honest evaluation! Getting students involved is good because it allows them to be a part of the activity and be engaged. Great post! GO CARDS!!!
DeleteI think keeping it anonymous is a great idea. I think some kids would be hesitant of peer assessing if they knew that others would be seeing their grades. Especially for kids who aren't high academic achievers. They might be embarrassed knowing that other people know what scores they are getting
